May at Forage

May marks the beginning of the first ingredients coming out of dirt here in Alberta! Some time in the next couple weeks the asparagus season will start and then it’s one thing after another through the short but intense summer growing season. Wade’s stinging nettles are really late this year (they were coming up in January before things got really cold so that may have something to do with it) but one of the lovage plants has decided to get an early start. You’ll see Lovage Potato Salad next week! We will feature Alberta asparagus as soon as it shows up at the Farmers Markets through late June.

There are some special occasions in May starting with Cinco de Mayo this Wednesday. That means Tacos, tacos, tacos! We have our Mother’s Day Menu available for preorder and in the shop this Friday and Saturday with lots of brunch centric items. We also have the first long weekend of the summer season and we are offering a BBQ Rib Dinner on the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of the Victoria Day long weekend. Hardwood smoked Broek Pork Acres Berkshire rib racks slow roasted until tender and ready to finish on the grill or in the oven. The meal package will be rounded out with the usual BBQ sides and there will be Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp for dessert.

With all that going on we will only have one Pop Up in May – our Forage Forno Pizza Pop Up on Thursday, May 13th. We’ll do the Margherita and Forage favorites and the Greek Lamb one we did once before. There will be Caesar Salad, Italian Green Salad, and Tiramisu for dessert. Look for online ordering going live this week.
