Blue Ribbon Biscuits

Last weekend was the Millarville Fair and Sue entered some of her baking for the first time.  Sue makes our Forage Buttermilk Biscuits just about every day and the results proved what we’ve always known!  She won First Place and also got the award for Best in Section in quick breads for them.  It’s official, our Buttermilk Biscuits are Blue Ribbon Biscuits.  To celebrate we are offering 6 biscuits for $5 this week.  We’ll make a fair number of these specials each day but if you want to guarantee we have them, just give us a call and we’ll make sure we are making enough.

N ew Peanut Butter Corn Flake Bars

I love collecting old cookbooks.  In particular the cookbooks that are collections of recipes put together as fundraisers.  I bought one last summer at a thrift store on Whidbey Island that is called “Butter and Love Recipes”  by the Hall School District #5 in North Platte, Nebraska.  It has some real gem recipes like Coca-Cola cake complete with mini marshmallows baked in, Mock Chow Mein, and something called Watergate Salad with Cool Whip, pistachio pudding, walnuts, and pineapple.  While these cookbooks are always good for a laugh, I also find some great recipes in them.  Case in point, this week’s special sweet –
Saucepan Peanut Butter Cookies on page 116 submitted by Jessica Westlake.  The recipe consists of corn syrup, sugar, peanut butter, and corn flakes and they are amazing.  So good that we want to share them with you this week.  Of course we’ve tweaked the recipe by using organic corn flakes and dipping them in chocolate but this only makes them even better!  Here’s the kicker – they are gluten free too!

Monday – BBQ Meatloaf

Hoven Farms organic beef and Vital Green organic veal meatloaf with a tangy BBQ sauce served with mashed potatoes and slaw  $14

Peppers, zucchini, tomatoes, onions, and eggplant on puff dough with parmesan potato filling served with a green salad  $12

Thursday – Prairie Hen Salad

Roast Greens, Eggs, and Ham Cornish hen, Lund’s spinach, green and yellow beans, Canada Goose Wild Rice, toasted pecans, and saskatoon berry vinaigrette  $13

Friday – Roast Organic Chicken

Sunworks Farm roast organic chicken served with picnic potato salad and our famous gravy  $40 whole  $26 half  $15 quarter
