Lund’s Organic Farm Needs Help

There has been a number of mounting pressures on Gert and Betty Lund’s farm over the past decade.  Their farmland has been annexed by the town of Innisfail, there is to be a new ethanol plant built just north of them, development is closing in on them, and now they have a new issue to deal with.  Altalink is proposing a transmission line through the farm.  Now you might say that this is great because it will result in some money for Gert because Altalink will compensate them for the land used.  That’s not the issue.  The real threat is to the organic status of their 60 acres.  If Altalink pollutes the land in any way, Gert would lose his organic certification and the value of his land and production would plummet.  The impact would be devastating.  For more information on what you can do and how you can help fight this go to  www.lundsorganic.com and click on NEWS or swing by the Kingsland Farmers Market and ask at their stall.  Throughout the year we use organic carrots, turnips, cabbage, beets, peas, beans, potatoes, parsnips, lettuce, spinach, chard, kale, rutabaga, broccoli, and cauliflower from Lund’s.  We need to start protecting and securing the long term supply of great organic products this farm brings us here in the city!
